SOMERFORD PARK Premier League Dressage Day 2 round up
Lewis Carrier and his own 14 year old Diego V produced a dazzling test to score 72.59% to take top honours in Saturday’s Le Mieux Premier League Grand Prix at Somerford Park.
“I was absolutely thrilled, he felt really good and its so nice to come out and do a test and everything comes together” said Lewis.
“His changes were really solid, there’s still more to come but a fantastic score and I’m absolutely thrilled.”
While the new partnership of 17 year old Annabella Pidgley and Gio were on form and produced a beautiful test to secure an impressive win in the U25 FEI Grand Prix.
First to go in Saturday evening’s competition in front of a large crowd the combination appeared unfazed by the pressure to secure a score of 76.79%
“Pumpkin is amazing, he really looks after me and I really enjoy riding him so I try not to think about the pressure” said Annabella.
“It’s only my second U25 FEI GP that I’ve ever ridden so I was really pleased with it and it was an improvement from last time.”
Annabella secured a one/two earlier in the day in the Baileys Horse Feeds Junior Individual, retaining her lead from the start on Sultan Des Paluds with a score 75.83% to take top podium spot.
“I was really pleased, we’ve been polishing our tests in training and pushing towards the higher marks and 75% is one of my PBs,” said Annabella. “Our extended trots are getting better and the canter work is really solid.”
Annabella secured a joint second spot on a score of 72.30% alongside India Durman-Mills and Escade.
“She (Espe) tries so hard, we had a mistake today so it brought our score down a bit but I was really pleased with her trot work” said Annabella.
Caitlin Burgess and Chocotof secured their second win at Somerford Park Premier League Dressage producing a score of 70.20% to put them well ahead of their closest rivals Lilah Gibbs and Dude III who finished in 2nd place with 67.40%
“He was really good today and felt better than yesterday” said Caitlin.
“I had a bit of a sat nav issue and forgot I was doing the test I was doing so there was a bit of a sharp turn, but he brought it back and he was really good afterwards”
Matt Frost and the 12 year old Summerhouse Delano claimed top spot in Satuday’s Saracen Horse Feeds Intermediate I.
“With lockdown we haven’t been able to compete so much,” said Matt “he’s working Grand Prix at home but he’s not been in atmospheres like this so I thought I’d do the small tour with him this year and hopefully GP next year.”
A second win of the week for Becky Moody in Saturday’s Prix St Georges on board Jack Diamond.
A huge Fairfax Saddles Premier League Prix St Georges class got under way in Arena 3 on Saturday morning, the first of Becky Moody’s horses James Bond was third to go and by coincidence picked up third spot.
While the second of her 8 year olds to go Jack Diamond produced a beautiful test with a score of 76.67% to claim the win.
“Both horses are quite new to this level” said Becky “I was really pleased with him in that test (Jack Diamond)”
“It’s a work in progress, I’ve said it before but he has the capacity to be an 80% horse.”
A great day at the office for Hampshire based Sara-Jane Lanning with a win in Saturday’s Andrews Bowen Advanced Medium with her own 8 year old Breit Fantastic.
“I’ve only competed him a few times so very exciting to win!”
“I’ve recently started riding him and because I was coming all the way from Hampshire, rather than just bring one horse I thought I’d bring him along too.”
